The joists must be placed perpendicularly to the direction the decking is going to be laid. There must be no more than 350 mm between the centres of the joists in mild climates, while in warm climates this gap should be no greater than 250 mm.

The joists should be fastened to the ground using drive anchors suitable for outdoor use and with a minimum length of 35mm.

The screws must be placed a maximum of 500 mm apart and 350 mm in warm climates, so that the distance between joist fixing points is not excessive.

Stainless steel brackets can be used to join perpendicular joists.
